It was just a short visit home and there is no place like it, for sure.
The first stop from the airport was the farmer's market and the health food store in search of wheat grass and food. It was very disappointing. The farmer's market had 3 organic items and the health food store had wheat grass, but it was not fresh and did not yield very much juice. Hopefully the 100+ stores and restaurants in Houston will have a better selection.
Thank you Sue, Kim, Laura and Vicky and Lori for all the supplies to help with my transition home, I am so blessed to have such caring friends. It is motivating to know people care for my well being. I am humbled by it all.
The juicer was a big hit with Ayden and Marsha. They are fighting to make my green juice (sprouts, celery, cucumbers). Ayden is already a pro and swears he won't ever eat red meat again. I don't think he realizes cheeseburgers are red meat or a reasonable facsimile, anyway.
I had severe chest pains, that felt just like pleurisy, and went to the VA for a check up to make sure I was clear for Houston. After x-rays came back clear, it dawned on me that I have spent the last three weeks acting like a 10 year old on my bicycle. I had strained my chest muscles swinging onto and off the bike. What a hoot. With everything going on this week, I guess I was a little paranoid. You think?
I got to visit with a couple of friends and neighbors and the reactions were interesting. One neighbors's son is vegan and can whip up some great dishes he learned while living in Costa Rica, can't wait. Another neighbor said they would pass on the whole idea, and support me on my choices. She is a nurse. My friends are ready to do weekly show and tell lunches to learn to "cook" vegan meals. It sounds like fun and I am anxious to get Houston behind me and start this new life.
Huge thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers...
